Union activists have opened their eyes to PSBs’ lack of sensitivity and have come out with a mission statement.

Mumbai-based Corporation Bank Workers Organisation (CBWO), in its charter of resolutions passed in its 6th All India Conference, expressed dismay over alleged ‘inaction’ of the Indian Banks Association (IBA) in taking up compassionate appointments in banks. As per the directions of the finance ministry, it has to be increased from 0.25% to 0.5%.

General secretary of the CBWO, Vishwanath Pai, said: “All the nine bank unions are united in their demand about the increase in percentage of compassionate appointments in PSBs. They had jointly made an appeal to P Chidambaram when he was finance minister. He had directed the IBA to take steps to complete pending compassionate appointments on priority and to identify families of bank employees who have died in service and appoint their family members, in accordance with their qualification and skill levels. But the IBA had not paid heed to the directions of the finance minister. It has not formed committees in individual banks nor has it collectively carried out an action plan.”

“As a result, many families of deceased bank employees, despite having eligible and educated youngsters, could not get their share of compassionate appointments,” Pai said.
