Police convince her to live with hubby, she chooses to die.
A day after police convinced a woman to reunite with her husband, whom she had left two months ago, and sent her to his house, she committed suicide.
The incident took place at SR Nagar on Thursday evening. The victim, Reshma Taj, 31, had got married to Mehaboob Pasha, an autorickshaw driver, and had two children, aged 13 years and nine years, with him. She had gone missing two months ago, following which Pasha had registered a missing-person complaint.
The police found her in Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh, where she was living with another person. When the police asked her to return to Bangalore, she declined. She reportedly said she was in love with the man she was staying with and did not wish to live with her husband.
The police convinced her to come to Bangalore, where a compromise meeting was held between her and Pasha on Wednesday. The police said the couple’s relatives, including Taj’s parents, brokered peace between them.
After giving a written statement to the police that she ‘agreed’ to stay with her husband, Taj went to her husband’s house. On Thursday evening, she ended her life by hanging in the bathroom.
SR Nagar police said she was suffering from asthma for long and no treatment could help her, which is why she probably ended her life.
SR Nagar police inspector B Ramamurthy said the police did not force her to go back to her husband’s house.
ACP (Ulsoor Gate) BN Nyamagowda said he would verify if the police brokered peace with good intentions.
