The cyber crime cell of the crime investigation department arrested a Chennai-based man for allegedly posting the  obscene profile of a housewife on a social networking site.

Prakash Rao, a private firm employee, was arrested from his residence in Chennai on December 20, and brought to Bangalore. He has been remanded to police custody. Police said the accused and the complainant were known to each other.

The city-based housewife lodged a complaint with the cyber cell in October this year after strangers started contacting her over the cell phone. She found out that someone had created a fake account of her’s on Orkut, which also listed her mobile phone number.

Police found the internet protocol (IP) address and traced the connection. On further investigation, the cyber cell sleuths reportedly found digital evidence in his laptop, suggesting Rao had created a fake e-mail ID to open the Orkut account. It has been suspected that he created the fake account to take revenge on the woman.

A case of dowry harassment was earlier filed against Rao at Thalghatpura in Ramanagara district, police said.
