Yusuf and his associates allegedly tried to breach the Z-category security accorded to the senior politician by influencing a National Security Guards jawan, who was part of the protective ring around Advani.

The police were suspecting that Yusuf’s plan failed after the jawan, Shekar Rathod, had refused to be part of the conspiracy.

Yusuf and his gang took revenge by killing Rathod at Moodbidri last year, when the jawan went to get his niece admitted to a college there.

Investigators claimed that Yusuf had named his three associates involved in the murder of Rathod.

The NSG man was killed after being run over by a vehicle, as Yusuf had planned.

“Yousuf must have tried to use Rathod as a means to get to Advani. Perhaps, Rathod had not agreed to his plans, or even wanted to confide the matter with his commandant once he returned to Delhi. We are looking into this aspect also,” a source said.

Yousuf was arrested in Bangalore 36 hours before Advani reached Udupi to participate in the 80th birthday of the Pejavar Mutt seer, Vishvesha Thirtha Swamiji.

“He (Yusuf) had commissioned seven assailants to bump off Rathod, as he did not agree to their demands. Two others, part of a back-up plan, were put on standby, if Rathod escaped the first attempt,” the source, privy to the interrogation, said.Mangalore and Udupi were on Yusuf’s radar as a lot of Hindutva activists resided there.

After turning out to be a double agent, Yousuf was reportedly commissioned by his terror links to wreak havoc in any of these two cities.

He was assigned by his terror masters to assassinate a Hindutva leader as tall as Advani or Narendra Modi.
