The government plans to establish Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya Centre for Training Master Trainers in Skills Development near Muddenahalli, Chikballapur district, the birth place of Sir M Visvesvaraya, on a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
The foundation-stone for the centre will be laid by chief minister Siddaramaiah on October 2, while Union minister for petroleum and natural gas M Veerappa Moily will be the chief guest.
“The centre will come up on 10 acres of land. It will be funded by the central and state governments. Two public sector giants, ONGC and GAIL have sanctioned Rs5 crore and Rs2 crore respectively. It will be a first of its kind in the country, and similar centres of excellence would be established in other states in the future,’’ Moily told reporters here on Wednesday.
Five nationalised banks–Canara Bank, Syndicate Bank, Vijaya Bank, Corporation Bank and State Bank of Mysore–have agreed to contribute Rs1 crore each.
“It is expected that some more public undertakings and private industries will contribute funds for this project,’’ the minister said.
Till the completion of the proposed building near Muddenahalli, the centre will function from Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology, Yelahanka. Initially, training will be provided in two courses – automotive engine diagnostics supported by Bosch India and building and construction services supported by Larsen & Toubro.
“Employees of various ITIs are eligible to undergo training at this skills development centre. It is expected that 27,000 master trainers will be trained at this centre in 10 years,’’ the minister said.
