Three days after the bodies of the student couple — Naveen and Jummi — were found on the railway track under the railway overbridge in Marathahalli, the police ruled out any foul play and said it was just an accident.

“The girl’s parents suspected murder and rape, which is why the police probed deeper into the case”, said Mir Arif Ali, deputy superintendent of police (railways).

“They died after they were hit by the train accidentally. They seem to have been in a deep conversation and failed to notice the train while  walking near the track. It is a clear case of accidental death,” he said.

Ali added, “All injuries were evidently impact injuries. Even the medical reports have confirmed the death was due to the accident and no prior injuries were found.”
