BANGALORE
Central and state intelligence wings and the Bangalore police went into a tizzy on Thursday after a letter posted to a few media houses warned of terror attacks on Thursday and Friday targeting high security installations and star hotels in the city. The letter, written in English and Urdu, claims to have been sent from “Al-Ameen-Al-quedaSquad”, states: “Bad days 20 and 21st, June 2013 for Bangalore”.
The letter read: “Our team is headed by new leader Umar-alla-baksh and we have 40 members in our troop”. It listed NAL (National Aerospace Laboratories), HAL, Vivanta Taj (does not specify which one or whether both), Leela Palace, Karnataka Administrative House (mostly Vidhana Soudha), BHEL, BEL, Isro, “Shivajinagar church” (does not mention the name) and HAL Shiva temple (mostly the huge Shiva idol behind Total Mall on Old Airport Road).
Additional commissioner of police (law & order) Kamal Pant said security has been beefed up at all these locations. “We are yet to find out the source of this letter,” he said.
