The call came at a function ‘Lankesh 77’ to commemorate the life and works of firebrand journalist and writer late P Lankesh.
Devanur Mahadeva, a close associate of Lankesh, said Sangh Parivar, known for its neo-fascist views, was using Mangalore and Dakshina Kannada as its laboratory. Writings of Lankesh and his social theories could be the right answer to such dangerous moves by Parivar for creating a unipolar society, he said. Suresh Bhat Bakrabail, G Rajshekar, Kalkuli Vittal Hegde, Bhoomi Gowda, Dr HS Anupama, Hayavadana Upadhayaya, PV Mohan, Vasudev Belle and Sara Aboobacker also spoke about the rise of communalism and growth of an exclusive society in Mangalore.
They pointed out that the nexus of politics and communal forces should be broken to bring Dakshina Kannada district and Mangalore city back to a normal civil society. Four books, including the collection of articles, commentaries and treatises, by Lankesh were released on the occasion.
