KHB is taking up construction of about 10,000 houses under the group housing scheme in Yeshwanthpur, Nelamangala, Devanahalli, Anekal and other places to provide houses at a reasonable price. The multi-storey housing complexes will have all the civic amenities provided by KHB, housing minister V Somanna said on Tuesday.

Special emphasis is being laid to develop housing colonies in taluks around Bangalore to ease the population pressure on the city.

Low-income, middle-income and high-income group housing colonies would be developed in Ramanagar, Kolar, Dodda Aladamara, Chikkaballapur, Srinivasapura, Sira, Tumkur and Bangarpet. A demand survey would be conducted soon to decide the exact number of houses to be built.KHB has decided to lay greater emphasis on distributing sites in the coming days. Henceforth, only 30% of the planned layout areas would have built-up houses and 70% would be devoted for developing sites. It would be offered for people on no-profit and no-loss basis. Progress of these projects is being reviewed every fortnight. KHB itself would provide drinking water and drainage facilities for these housing colonies, Somanna said. The minister also informed that efforts are being made to bring Shimsha River water to Suryanagar Layout, developed by KHB. A new mega housing project would soon be launched near Suryanagar in Anekal taluk. It would accommodate the population of about one assembly constituency. However, Somanna refused to divulge the details pertaining to the exact location and likely price of the houses or sites to be distributed.
