Katta Jagadish files petition for quashing of FIR

Katta Jagadish, corporator of Vasanth Nagar and son of former IT and BT minister Katta Subramanya Naidu, on Monday filed a petition in the high court seeking the quashing of a first information report filed against him by the lok ayukta, in connection with the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) land scam.

The first information report  also involves his father Katta Subramanya Naidu, who has been listed as the first accused and Jagadish as the second accused.

The lok ayukta police on December 2 had conducted raids on the companies allegedly floated by the father-son duo, including Itaska Software Private Limited.

It may be recalled that in May 2007, the acquisition of land in Bandikodigehalli village was initiated, and a memorandum of understanding between Itaska Software and KIADB for allotment of land was entered into.

To obtain the consent of farmers, the minister allegedly used several of his family members and associates, including Katta Jagadish, who received an illegal gratification of Rs87 crore, which was then paid to a benami company floated by the duo.

Thereafter, a first information report was lodged against them in this case.
Katta Jagadish contended that the court had already granted a stay on the first information report on October 12 in a similar case, where the lok ayukta alleged that he had bribed a witness not to testify against him in the land scam.

When there is already a stay in the case, how can the lok ayukta file another first information report against him, contended Jagadish.
