Karnataka was the star in the nation-wide awards for excellence among Indian companies, with the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation and Karnataka Home Guards & Civil Defence, being chosen for the Golden Peacock Innovative Product and Service award.MindTree co-founder Ashok Soota took home the special award for technological leadership, as part of Golden Peacock National Training and Innovation Awards, in Bangalore on Saturday.The awards were presented by minister of health and family welfare Ramachandre Gowda during the 20th Institute of Directors Convention.  The Golden Peacock National Quality Award, 2010, was conferred on Reliance Infrastructure Limited, Dahanu Thermal Power Station, Rajashree Cement, Aditya Birla Group, HPCL Visakha Viyawada Secunderabad Pipeline, HLL Lifecare Limited, Larsen & Toubro Ltd, SAIL, among others. Congratulating Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa for his vision, governance and for speedy industrial growth in the state, former chief justice of India, PN Bhagwati, said it was ideal that the awards ceremony was being held in Bangalore, the knowledge centre of the country.The Golden Peacock Awards recognise and reward organisations that excel at a rapid pace. The awardees were selected through a transparent assessment process. The jury was chaired by Justice PN Bhagwati and included the who’s who of the country, said Lt Gen Ahluwalia, vice-president, IOD.
