State primary and secondary education minister Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri inaugurated the helpline on Thursday.

“If there are any queries or complaints about the mid-day meal programme, people can report the incident by calling the helpline,” he said.

Students, parents, and teachers can call the toll-free number 1 800 425 20007 in case they have queries or complaints.

The mid-day meal programme has been active in the state for the past 10 years. But, of late, it has been receiving several complaints on the quality of food served at schools. In some cases, students have even found rats and cockroaches in the food.

In some schools, students are asked to wash vessels after having lunch.

If the school authorities are forcing students to wash the utensils, students and parents can call the helpline and register a complaint.
