Dr KS Sriprakash, director, Minto Hospital and Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, Bangalore, is the new vice-chancellor for Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS).

Following the report submitted by a search committee headed by former vice-chancellor of Bangalore University MS Thimmappa governor HR Bhardwaj appointed Sriprakash for the post.

Sources from Raj Bhavan confirmed the news and said, “The search committee had shortlisted three names: Dr Vijayalakshmi Balekundri, Dr Sachchidanand and Dr Sriprakash. Of the three, the governor has chosen Sriprakash for the post.”

The committee, comprising also of Mylavahanam Natarajan, V-C, Dr MGR Medical University Chennai and MV Ramanamma, former director, medical education department of Andhra Pradesh, met on Monday where the three names were shortlisted and sent to the governor.

Later in the evening, the Raj Bhavan issued a communique on Sriprakash’s appointment. The tenure of incumbent vice-chancellor Dr S Ramananda Shetty ends on July 13.

Dr Balekundri is a paediatric heart surgeon at Jayadeva Institute of Medical Sciences and Hospital and and Dr Sachchidanand a former registrar, RGUHS.
