Chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda announced a fund of Rs1 crore for the Shivaji Jayanti celebration during the inauguration of the programme. The government of Karnataka, for the first time, celebrated the Shivaji Jayanti at Ravindra Kalaskhetra.

The Kannada and culture department took the initiative to commemorate the jayanti through an array of cultural programmes which displayed the cultural diversity of Karnataka and Maharashtra.

The chief minister said that along with celebrating great people’s anniversaries, we should inculcate their thoughts as well. “Shivaji’s thoughts are more relevant in these times and his anniversary should be celebrated in all states, such events should be celebrated as they bind people together and make us remember their lives.”
