Chief minister BS Yeddyurappa, in his budget, also assured support for encouraging science and technology in the state by transforming Challakere taluk in Chitradurga district into a science and technology resource hub.

Yeddyurappa said his government has provided 5,750 acres in Challakere to the DRDO and Indian Institute of Science (IISc).

About 4,250 acres have been granted to DRDO which will establish a test-range facility for flight testing UAV’s, air-to-ground weapons and upcoming air combat projects undertaken by it.

IISc, which is establishing its second campus, has been given 1,500 acres. Additionally, land has also been provided to Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and Indian Space Research Organisation for taking up their projects.
