The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is making an effort to stand ground in the state, released its manifesto for the taluk and zilla panchayat elections on Friday.

The manifesto, released by state BJP chief KS Eshwarappa, party national general secretary Ananth Kumar, ministers R Ashoka and Shobha Karandlaje, promises farm loans at 1% interest, houses for the homeless and Rs2 crore special grants for all taluk and zilla panchayats, among other things.

Going a step ahead of the Congress, the party has come up with ‘Pancha Sutras’ for overall development of villages, focussing on infrastructure, housing, power, drinking water and roads, food, healthcare, protection of soil, upliftment of women and special agricultural zones to promote agriculture. To protect rural culture and tradition, it has proposed to set up Rural India Force.

Addressing the media, Eshwarappa said, “Despite opposition parties’ non-cooperation, we have implemented several developmental programmes successfully. People know well that allegations  against BJP are not true.” He came down heavily on governor HR Bhardwaj. “For the BJP, the Congress and JD(S) are not opposition parties. The real opposition leader is the governor,” Eshwarappa said.
