The Karnataka Veterinary Association has challenged the government’s decision to allot 21 acres at the Hebbal campus of Karnataka Veterinary University for the Judges Colony, in the high court.
The Karnataka Veterinary Association (KVA) has challenged the government’s decision to allot 21 acres at the Hebbal campus of Karnataka Veterinary Animal and Fisheries Sciences University for the Judges Colony, in the high court.
In a public interest litigation filed before the high court on Thursday, the association and NK Rai, representing the university, challenged the government’s notification dated December 3.
The petitioners contended that the equipments worth Rs3 crore have been bought from the United States to produce vaccine for bird flu. They submitted that the project would be affected if land from the university was given for the Judge’s Colony.
Observing that the project was in initial stage, the division bench of justice AN Venugopala Gowda and justice B Manohar posted the case after vacations as there was no urgency. The high court will resume on January 3, 2011.
Currently, only about 100 acres is available with the university. The campus houses a dairy science college, campus school and the Karnataka Veterinary Council.
The Institute of Animal Health of Veterinary Biological manufactures anti-rabies vaccines in the campus.
