An Indian Revenue Service (IRS) probationary officer was arrested for harassing his wife, also his batch mate, for dowry and shooting sexually explicit videos of her for blackmail.
Unable to bear with ill-treatment, the victim, Sonu Kavade, left Bangalore for her hometown Nagpur, where she filed a police complaint. A police team from Gittikhadan in Nagpur landed in the city and picked up Nishwant Davrajan Kullulathil on Thursday morning, with the help of local police, from his sister’s house in Amruthhalli, where he was hiding.
Kullalathil was later taken to Nagpur for further investigations. A native of Kerala, Kullalathil was in love with Kavade and the duo got married on February 2, against the wishes of their parents and were staying at a house in Koramangala.
Soon after the marriage, the accused started harassing her for dowry and also used to shoot sexually explicit videos of her to blackmail her for more dowry.
The victim left for Nagpur by availing leave and began staying at a hostel there. However, Kullalathil went to Nagpur and on the pretext of holding a patch up talk allegedly sodomised her in her hostel room and videographed it. He then demanded `10 lakh and threatened to post the video on the net if she refused.
The victim also alleged that her in-laws also mentally harassed her for dowry. Based on the complaint, the police have booked Kullalathil for un-natural sexual offence and criminal intimidation, blackmail and dowry harassment.
