Denying passes for the recent cricket matches at Chinnaswamy stadium could prove costly for the Karnataka State Cricket Association as the Bangalore Palike may levy tax on the stadium.
Denying passes for the recent cricket matches at Chinnaswamy stadium could prove costly for the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) as the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) may levy tax on the stadium.
Some corporators of the BBMP raised the issue in the Palike’s council meeting on Thursday. They accused the KSCA president of denying free passes for the recent cricket matches at Chinnaswamy stadium.
The corporators said that by denying passes, the KSCA had violated the agreement with BBMP. “The Chinnaswamy stadium land belongs to the BBMP. There was an agreement that pass be given to all the corporators for cricket matches. But the new KSCA secretary Javagal Srinath has violated the agreement and did not provide passes to the corporators,” said former mayor and Hanumantanagar ward corporator K Chandrashekar.
Supporting Chandrashekar, Nagarbhavi corporator K Umesh Shetty from the BJP said he was humiliated by KSCA secretary Srinath.
“When we asked Srinath for the passes, he denied and asked us to buy them. He behaved in a rude manner and said that he cannot provide pass for corporators,” he said.
When contacted later, mayor SK Nataraj said that Satyanarayana would discuss the issue with Srinath soon. “Till then, we have decided not to levy tax on the Chinnaswamy stadium,” he said.
