A 17-year-old PUC II student, who was kidnapped early Friday morning, went through a 14-hour ordeal before the police managed to rescue her after a high-speed chase and some shooting in Vijayanagar.

The girl, a student of Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College in VV Puram, was abducted from outside her college at around 7.30 am on Friday. According to police commissioner Shankar Bidari, some men stopped the girl’s auto and forced her into a Maruti Omni. They then drove the van around the city while making calls to the girl’s father, who is a city-based businessman.

Six police teams were immediately put on the job. The calls, most of which were made from the girl’s cell phone, were tracked for over 12 hours. The girl’s family got a Rs1-crore ransom call at 8.12 am. They were told to deposit the money at Sarakki junction by 4 pm. When the girl’s father reached the spot, the abductors told him that they had dropped the plan and that he should now take the cash and reach Metro Cash & Carry on Kanakapura main road by 5 pm.
