He ended in prison, after all

Trijesh Jayachandran, a 20-year-old engineering student, who rammed his car against a traffic police constable on duty on Saturday night, said he was scared that he would get arrested for drink driving.

The inspector of High Ground police station DT Virupakshappa said that Trijesh came to know about his offence when he was caught by the police. 

The incident occurred near the Windsor Manor Hotel junction around 10.40 pm, where the traffic police  were on duty to check drink driving.

Trijesh, son of a BBMP chief engineer and a resident of MCC Layout in Vijayanagar, got out of the car and claimed he was the son of an influential person, when the police  signalled him to stop. When he realised that he was about to be charged, Trijesh got into the car and tried to flee. It was then constable Girish, 35, in attempt to stop Trijesh, got hurt.

The condition of Girish, whose right leg was fractured, was out of danger, doctors, attending him at a private hospital, said.

After few minutes of chase, the police caught Trijesh and his friend Arjun at Crescent Road. Besides a case of drink driving, he was now facing charge of attempted murder.

BA Vijee Kumar, a traffic sub-inspector and witness to the incident, said that Arjun tried to prevent him from fleeing.

Trijesh, however, ignored his friend’s words and started the car. Arjun even forced Trijesh to stop the car once he rammed against the policeman. Realising what he had done, Trijesh got more panicky and sped away from the spot, Vijee added.

Trijesh reportedly admitted that he had made a mistake by knocking down the police constable. The police, however, registered a case against the engineering student.
