A division bench headed by justice Sreedhara Rao started dictating orders on Tuesday in a public interest litigation filed by an environment support group and a nongovernmental organisation challenging the leasing out of four lakes in Bangalore.

The environment support group contended that the lease deeds were executed by the Lake Development Authority in favour of a few companies. It sought a direction from the court to the state government to ensure full compliance with the law and policies relating to protection and conservation of lakes, tanks and wetlands.

The prominent lakes and tanks that had been leased are Agara Lake, Nagawara Lake and Hebbal Lake.
