HC reserves verdict on Pascal’s bail plea

The high court reserved its verdict on the bail plea of French consulate official Pascal Mazurier who was arrested on  June 19 on charges of raping his four-year-old daughter based on a complaint filed by his wife.

The fast track court-I on July 27 rejected Pascal’s plea for bail. The counsel for Pascal had earlier argued that: “The  allegation that Pascal has influenced the investigation is not correct since he does not have roots in this country. He  also does not know anyone in the city and hence he could not have influenced the investigation”.

HC to hear petition against BBMP’s tender notification
The high court ordered a petition questioning the BBMP’s notification inviting fresh tenders for managing solid waste in the city to be posted before a division bench for further hearing.

On September 18, the BBMP issued a notification inviting fresh tenders before September 27 for managing solid waste. BR Ganesh and others filed the petition challenging the re-tender notification, contending that eight months  ago BBMP had called for tenders for solid waste management which was challenged in the high court. However, the high court on September 14 gave the go ahead for the tender process. “How can BBMP issue a re-tender notification when the high court has given the go ahead for the tender process?” they asked.

When the petition came up for hearing before Justice Mohan Shanthanagoudar, the BBMP counsel submitted that  certain PILs were filed in the high court regarding the garbage menace in the city. “The division bench headed by  chief justice Vikramajit Sen had observed in those litigations that wet and dry waste should be managed separately.

This aspect was not covered by the tenders called eight months ago. Keeping this in mind, the BBMP called for a  re-tender,” the counsel submitted.

HC raps BBM commissioner
The high court on Thursday directed the chief secretary to file an action-taken report by October 3 on BBMP commissioner’ negligence in taking action against officials who did not prevent the construction of illegal buildings.

C Suma, a doctor, filed a petition, contending that her neighbour ST Lokesh violated terms of a sanctioned plan and the BBMP’s bye-laws when he constructed a building at Tala Cauvery Housing Cooperative Society complex in Yelahanka.
