The Durga puja fervour is catching up in the city with close to 50 pandals being set up. But if you want to experience a puja that is aimed at making a difference, head to BTM Layout, where about 1,000 members of BinB — an online community for Bengalis — have come forward for the first time to celebrate Durga puja with a ‘green’ theme.

Step in here and you can spot greenery all around. The members of BinB, participating in the puja have taken efforts to get plants from their balconies and home interiors to adorn the puja campus here. “Moreover, sticking to the theme, we have tied up with the horticulture department and every visitor is handed over a sapling to endorse greenery at home,” said Gaurav Majumdar, president of BinB Puja Committee. Durga puja depicts the victory of good over the evil, and this year we will depict that by gifting a sapling, the sign of a new beginning, in this rapidly degrading climatic condition of Bangalore, he added.

Over 200 saplings have already been distributed.  Interestingly, the entire area has been decorated with recycled material.
