Sharing tales of perseverance and success.
Meet Snehal Annasaheb Rayamane, the Belgaumite who secured the 77th rank in the Union Public Service Commission Examinations 2012.
Snehal did her graduation with journalism and psychology as the core subjects and got a masters degree in psychology after that. She went on to work as an assistant professor in Maharani College for three years, while simultaneously chasing her childhood dream of becoming an IAS officer.
“I happen to meet many students from economically backward families and know how difficult it is for them to pursue higher education. I wanted to do something for them and realised that I can do it only by becoming an IAS officer,’’ she said.
She joined the JSS Training Institute for Competitive Examinations (JSSTICE) and secured the 789th rank in 2011. It helped her get a job at the accounts and financial services of post and telegraph department.
“I have been working for the past few months with the P&T department. I decided to make one more attempt to realise my childhood dream and applied for the UPSC examinations in 2012 and secured the 77th rank. I finally succeeded in my sixth attempt,’’ she said.
CT Shilpa Nag’s is another success story. Shilpa can be a role model for those housewives who want to realise their ambition. She joined the JSSTICE after her marriage and has a six-year-old son.
“I have been preparing for the exams for the past five years and I finally succeeded in my third attempt,’’ she said.
The story of Sandeep G Rajappa, who secured the 412th rank, is just as interesting. His parents were the first graduates from their respective villages near Anekal. His father was the superintendent of police and mother, a homemaker. He completed engineering in 2005 and was working with IBM.
“I got an opportunity to go to the US, but I thought I should give something back to the society and joined the coaching centre for the UPSC exams. I got selected as an assistant commissioner of the income tax department, but it did not stop me from chasing my dream of becoming an IAS officer,’’ said Sandeep.
“People have a misbelief that they do not have the ability to clear the UPSC exams. My appeal to the youth is to take up the civil service and be agents of social change,’’ he offered.
Dr Manjunath Appasaheb Kanamadi too had nourished an ambition of becoming an IAS officer since his childhood. He wanted to join a coaching centre for IAS, but circumstances compelled him to pursue medicine.
“I secured the 900th rank and got selected for the Indian Revenue Service, but I will not stop dreaming of becoming an IAS officer. I want to make one more attempt to try my luck,’’ he said.
