Ganeshotsav : Giant laddu to indulge his sweet tooth

Just as we come close to Ganesha Chaturthi festivities; fun fervour and colour come into the city making the festival all the more grand. This time around, Sri Vidyaranya Yuvaka Snagha on behalf of Bengaluru Ganesha Utsava 2012 will be making a 6,001 kg laddu for Lord Ganesha.

Ganesha, who is known to be a foodie, will be pleased with this huge laddu. “We will be placing this laddu near the APS grounds at Sri Mallikarjuna Temple Grounds in Basavanagudi.

The laddu is being prepared by 15 people. “The laddu will be made of 1,300kg of gram flour, 300kg of maida, 700kg of dry fruits, 2,800kg of sugar, one kilogram of saffron and 1,800 kg of ghee,” said Mamatha, a member of the Vidyaranya Yuvaka Sangha.

The cost of the laddu is close to be Rs 15 lakh. The sangha has decided to make the laddu and unveil it on a podium which was earlier not the idea. “We are incurring much more cost than expected, but we can manage it as it is for the lord. The laddu will be on display on Tuesday to the public. The laddu will be distributed on Wednesday to the visitors in the form of Prasadam till it lasts,” Mamatha said.

Along with this, a 14- feet-tall sand Ganesha will also be unveiled. “For this, we have brought two artisans from Orissa and about six volunteers are helping them. This Ganesha will be 50 feet in width. This will be on display all month long,” she said.
