Four gang-rapists arrested in Bangalore

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Bangalore Police have arrested four youth allegedly involved in the rape of the 24-year-old woman who was abducted from Electronic City on December 12.

Kumar alias Sambar, 23, of Magadi Road, Basavaraju, 29, and Chandra alias Peenya Chandra, 20, of Maruti Layout, Chikkasandra, Peenya, Dasarahalli, and Anjaneya Reddy, 20, of Korigepalli, Srinivasapura taluk, Kolar district have all been arrested from Kolar. A CCB team and the south-east division of the city police were engaged in the case.

Police got a breakthrough when inspector VK Vasudeva arrested Somashekhar alias Soma after a 6km chase within the Parappana Agrahara police station limits.

His arrest led to information about the operation of a gang involved in robbery and assaults on women. Somashekhar offered information that led to the others in the gang.

Police have also recovered photographs from the car that was abandoned after the chase.

On December 18, based on  Somashekhar’s information, police nailed down Shankar alias Chandra. They tracked calls on Shankar’s mobile phone and located him at Bagalur.

He was, however, killed as the police tried to nab him. Warned by their mate’s condition, the gang stopped using mobile phones, which delayed the probe.

Police said that the arrested men have been involved in criminal cases at Magadi Road, KR Agrahara, Rajagopala Nagar, Varthur, Peenya, Hebbal, Kempapura, and Nelamangala police station limits. The police are searching for a man from the gang who is still absconding.
