Fog threw flight schedules into complete disarray at the Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) on Thursday.

Due to poor visibility on the runway, the BIA had to halt operations between 5.15am and 8.22am, which had a cascading effect on flight schedules leading to a huge backlog.

As many as 72 flights—46 departures and 26 arrivals—were delayed, an ATC official said. An Air Arabia flight to Sharjah and British Airways flight to London were among them.

No flight diversions were reported in the morning and the incoming flights were asked to hover around the airport till the runway was cleared for landing. It was categorised as the ‘radiation fog’ that normally hits the BIA  from November 15 to February 15, between 3am and 8.30am.
