Father of four held in DJ Halli sodomy case

The DJ Halli police on Tuesday arrested a person, who allegedly sodomised an 8-year-old boy, a week back, and produced him before court. The suspect was identified by the boy, whose picture was flashed to him on a computer screen along with 200 more suspects, at an identification parade.

The police will conduct one more identification parade for the boy in the court on Wednesday, to confirm whether the suspect is the person who had committed the crime.

DJ Halli police inspector, BV Pradeep said, “The child pointed at one person, who has been identified as Ilyas, 30. He is a resident of KG Halli. Unless an identification parade is conducted in the court, we cannot ascertain the truth.”

A senior police officer confirmed that the boy identified his tormentor, when more than 200 photos of various suspects were shown to him.

A city-based professor has been fighting a lone battle to avail justice for his son. The boy suffered bruises and cuts on his body during the ordeal he underwent at the suspect’s hand on September 16.

On Sunday, the child had identifie the man from among 10 others paraded before him  at the DJ Halli police station.  Without any hesitation and fear, he had held the suspect’s hand and said it was he who had tortured him.

Last week, the police had detained the suspect based on the sketch they had prepared with the help of the boy’s description.

They later showed him a photograph they took after the suspect’s detention, which was identified by the boy easily.
Ilyas, an auto driver, also doubled up as a cook. He is married and has four children.
