Extramarital affair: Man kills wife

A man strangled his wife to death in Madiwala early Monday morning over an extra marital affair. The deceased has been identified as Preethi, 22, a resident of Bandepalya in Madiwala and a native of Kerala.

She was working as a sales girl at Shoppers Stop in Koramangala. Her husband Vishwajit Bhagat Singh Das, 25, a native of Orissa, was employed as salesman at a mall.

The couple got married two years ago after a love affair and Preethi continued working after marriage. Both Das and Preethi had not informed their parents about the marriage.

Police said as per preliminary investigation Preethi had developed an extra marital affair with a male colleague, identified as Viji.

Das recently got to know about Preethi’s affair and since then the couple were having frequent quarrels. Assistant commissioner of police (Madiwala sub-division) H Subbanna said, “Das had told her to stop being in relationship with Viji. But Preethi told him that she no longer wanted him and was in love with Viji.”

On Sunday night too they had quarreled after dinner. Around 3 am they woke up and started fighting again, Preethi threatened to commit suicide. This enraged Das and he strangulated her using a towel.

The early morning quarrel had woken up Ganesh, the house owner, who was staying nearby. Later when there was a sudden silence, he got suspicious. He rushed to the house and found Preethi dead. He informed the police, who rushed to the spot and arrested Das.

The body was handed over to the family members after postmortem at Victoria hospital. Madiwala police have registered a case of murder.
