The tension, which was writ large on pre-university (PU) college students’ faces before they took the exams, seemed to have disappeared when they came out of the examination hall in the afternoon.

The first day of the second year PU exams for chemistry and business studies began on Thursday on a positive note for the students, thanks to the question papers they attempted. Many students expressed satisfaction that they got an easy paper on the first day of the exam.

“It was really an easy one. We had never imagined it to be such a simple one,” said Subhiksha, a science student at Sheshadripuram Composite College. “Compared to the previous years’ question papers, this year’s was the easiest. And we are extremely happy about this happy beginning,” said Pramod Shetty, a commerce student from KLE College.

Interestingly, no impersonation case was reported from the examination centres. “Even we are surprised to see that no impersonation case was reported from any of the centres. Every year, we used to get at least one case on the very first day of the exam,” said an official of the PUE department.
Meanwhile, the department has taken all precautions to avoid malpractices. It has deputed about 2,500 squads across the state. Separate women squads have been appointed to check girl students. Photocopying shops within 200 metres of the examination centre were shut down on Thursday.
