It was ‘Doggies Day Out’ on Sunday. Pet dogs in the city no longer have to make do with just walks, exercises, or special grooming sessions. Once every year, they can even have a special day all to themselves, thanks to the enterprise of a pet management firm in the city.

Anand Vishwanath, founder of the firm, said, “Many dog owners these days live in apartments, and the only exercise the pets get is a walk around the block. The pets seldom get a chance to roam free and explore nature. That is why we thought of getting the dogs out to this 10-acre farm in Whitefield, where they could roam free and have a fun-filled day.”

There were sports activities for the dogs, special and mouth-watering food just for the pets, even a long lap in the swimming pool for relaxation at the end of the eventful day.

Dogs of all breeds were there on Sunday: Dobermans, spaniels, German Shepherds, Labradors. “My fellow was so happy to run around in this vast space,” said Srinivas Murthy, a pet owner who had brought his dog to the farm.

The dogs seemed thrilled to soak in the warm sun and just frolic all day. They were free to jump through tyres and search for bones. Many of the dogs, however, chose the simplest thrills, like chasing other dogs.

At the end of the day, they got to plunge into the swimming pool. Swim over, they arrived for a special meal, and the menu laid out for them included French toast, chicken rice and vegetables. The dogs happily wolfed down the meal. There were pet owners who could also give the animals a special hairdo and beautiful accessories.

On Sunday, nearly 45 dogs gathered at the ‘doggies day out’. Many of them were pampered with special skin care products. On sale were special beds designed for the dogs, chews of different colours and flavours, collars and bells. Even the pet owners seemed to have made a day of it.
