BANGALORE
BJP MLC Leher Singh on Wednesday expressed serious concerns about the rising incidents of drug peddling near schools and colleges in the city, and urged the state government to eliminate the nexus between politicians and the drug mafia.
Expressing his concern over the rising number of road accidents involving young drug addicts in the city, he stated that the situation would not have been so bad, had the politicians given a free hand for the police to deal with the drug mafia and also crack down on those who break the law.
Participating in a debate on the governor’s address in the council, Singh stated that in Singapore, death penalty is meted out for those who indulge in drug related offences.
“SM Krishna, who was earlier CM in the state, took pride in announcing that he would turn Bangalore into Singapore. Today, drugs are available in the vicinity of schools and colleges in Bangalore,” he explained.
“According to my information, drugs are available in 12 stores on Vittal Mallya Road alone. If the police want, they can curb the menace within 24 hours as they know about it. However, political will to support the police department to take stern action is not forthcoming,” Singh alleged.
