With the deadline to install rainwater harvesting (RWH) systems just five days away, city dwellers are flocking to the water board’s RWH theme park in Jayanagar to acquaint themselves with the concept.
The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board’s (BWSSB’s) Sir M Visvesvaraya RWH theme park, spread over two acres, at Jayanagar V block is drawing more visitors these days, the water board officials said.
They added that the park has more than 25 demonstrations on RWH; people are getting familiarised with them and enquiring how they can implement it at their houses. Venkataraju, engineer-in-chief, BWSSB, said the park has been getting 20-25 visitors nowadays.
“There are some 30 demonstrations of RWH here and I was looking at one of them, which would support my sloped roof,” said Rajakrishna, a resident of Frazer Town, who had come to visit the park.
Since the park provides details of how to install the system and the places where people can buy them, the visitors find it easy. “By collecting water from the rooftop and using pipes, we can draw the water down. This water can be then filtered and stored in tanks.
They have also suggested that we can make soaking pits, which will help in recharging ground water,” said Sadhashivaiah, a resident of Srinagara, who was looking at a demonstration in the park.
The life-size models at the park also carry explanations, which describe how to install the systems. For those who require more information, the park has more than 25 documentaries, which are aired there on a daily basis.
According to the BWSSB, about 30,000 households in Bangalore have adopted RWH systems.
