Residents and motorists at Kalasipalyam, Tagore Circle in Basavanagudi and Kadirenahalli, in JP Nagar, who have endured a harrowing time due to the long-drawn underpass works being undertaken by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), can hope for relief by March-end. BBMP mayor R Shardamma and BBMP commissioner MK Shanakarlinge Gowda, during a spot visit to these areas on Friday, set a March-end deadline, failing which they will initiate stern action.

Gowda said the work is progressing satisfactorily at Tagore Circle as the concrete laying work has been completed. “It will be open to public in the second week of March,” he added.

The BBMP commissioner, however, was not satisfied with the progress of underpass work at Kadirenahalli. “We will complete the service road on both sides of underpass by the end of this month. And, the deadline to complete the project is March-end,” he said. Councillor Basavaraj came down heavily on the executive engineer for obstructing the progress of the Kadirenahalli underpass work. Gowda sought clarification from the officer and directed him to get the work done.

As for KR Market underpass in Kalasipalayam, Gowda said March 15 has been set as the deadline for completion of the major works. “To monitor this, we will inspect the project site every 15 days,” he explained.

Shardamma lamented that she had already inspected these project sites three times and this time too, the contractors missed the deadline.
