The Lokayukta police on Friday conducted raids on the properties owned by Gowramma, a Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) corporator from Azad Nagar, and seized disproportionate assets worth Rs14.6 crore.

Based on a tip-off, simultaneous raids were conducted on four properties owned by the corporator and her relatives and a case was registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Four teams of the Lokayukta police were deployed for the raids and they seized hundreds of gold bangles and documents related to sites (in 16 places) and property (in 45 places).

The officials raided Gowramma’s house in Nanjamba Agrahara, her driver Prakash’s house near RT Mill, her relative Yammaiah’s house in Chikkadevaraya Road and the house of her husband Govindaraju’s friend Kanilal, a gold jeweller.

Among the property documents seized included three sites in Chamarajpet worth Rs2.21 crore, one building each in Nanjamba Agrahara, Ramachandra Agrahara and Weavers colony worth Rs7.76 crore, sites in 16 different places in the rural areas of Bangalore and Mysore districts worth Rs2.95 lakh.

They also found Rs3.83 lakh in cash, 3.5 kg gold worth Rs48.6 lakh, 21 kg silver worth Rs5.27 lakh, household articles worth Rs7.25 lakh, and two cars worth Rs21 lakh.

During the raids at Yammaiah house, they seized documents pertaining to 6 acres and 20 guntas of land in Kumbalgodu Gollahalli, worth Rs87 lakh.

Gowramma’s family had seven bank accounts, in which they had deposited Rs1.18 lakh.
