Conductor killed as bus crashes into shop in Bangalore

A conductor was killed in an accident when a Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus rammed into a shop at Vaishali Circle on Jayanagar 9th Block.

The bus damaged the shop, killing the conductor DT Ashwath and critically injuring the driver Narayanaswamy.

At 6.30 am, the passenger-less BMTC bus was on its way to Kothanuru Dinne from the BMTC Depot to start its daily trip. The conductor, while replacing the route board, was chatting with the driver, who lost over the vehicle control at Vaishali Circle and rammed the bus into Lalith Steel Shop, shattering the front window glass of the bus, sources said.

The conductor who was critically injured was rushed to the nearby hospital, but was declared dead. The driver was also critically injured and rushed to Nimhans, and later shifted to BGS Global Hospital for additional treatment. Police sources said the driver is out of danger.

BMTC employees who were at the accident spot mentioned that driver Narayanaswamy suffered from epilepsy. “We have asked the BMTC officials to submit his medical report,” deputy commissioner of police (traffic east) BA Muthanna said.

In yet another accident, a 24-year-old private firm supervisor was killed and his friend injured in wee hours of Thursday when his bike was hit by a goods lorry in front of Sheshadripuram police station.

The police have identified the deceased as Siddesha, a resident of Rajajinagar. His friend and pillion Varadaraj suffered a fracture on his right leg and is admitted in a private hospital for treatment.

The lorry was seized and investigations are on. High Grounds traffic police have registered a case.

Meanwhile, a 22- year-old Chandrashekar was killed after his bike was hit by a BMTC bus on Abbigere Main Road in Kammagondanahalli on Thursday morning. The deceased was on his way to the petrol bunk when the accident happened.
