A committee, comprising MLAs and corporators in the jurisdiction of Gandhi Krishi Vignana Kendra (GKVK) campus along with representatives of the university and residents in the surrounding areas, would look into the controversy surrounding the construction of a road through the varsity’s campus.

Mayor SK Nataraj announced this on Thursday after a heated debate on the issue during the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) council meeting. “Based on the report of the committee, we will take a final decision on the future of the road through GKVK,” he said.

Yelahanka MLA, SR Vishwanath, who attended the meet, raised the topic and said that though there were problems with road alignment through the campus, the road was necessary due to heavy traffic on Bellary Road.

H Ravindra, chairman of BBMP’s standing committee on major works, said the road being was unscientific and violated the CDP. He said the plan was against the interest of farmers as many scientific farming technologies was being conducted in the campus.
