One of the five cheetah cubs in Mysore Zoo died on Tuesday, ten days after his mother Maya died. The cub had stopped taking food after his mother died on June 12.

“The cub had not taken any food or liquid for days and become weak, despite our efforts to give him nutrients. He was deeply shocked about the disappearance of his mother,” zoo executive director BP Ravi said in a statement.

However it is a consolation to the animal lovers that other four cubs of Maya were thriving.  Maya had given birth to five cubs in April, a year after she arrived from Africa. She herself had suffered poor health till December 2011, but her health improved, thanks to the efforts of zoo authorities.
