Black magic woman dupes four in Bangalore

Capitalising on four unsuspecting women’s desire for divine intervention to solve their problems, a conwoman posing as a tantrik duped them of valuables worth more than Rs3.5 lakh at Kaveri Nagar on Monday.

The victims told the police that the accused was dressed in a red saree and blouse and seemed to be 22-26 years old. About 10 am, the conwoman knocked on the door of Nagarathnamma, when she was alone in the house. The woman claimed she could solve any problem through prayers, to which Nagarathnamma asked her to rid her husband of alcohol addiction.

The ‘tantrik’ asked her to bring a saree and some gold for pooja. The conwoman asked her to keep at least 50 grams of gold to add to the efficacy of the pooja.

Then Nagarathnamma called her sister Mangala to her house.

The conwoman told Mangala she was possessed by an evil spirit, but the pooja would exorcise her. A well-meaning Nagarathnamma also called her childless neighbour and the house owner, to whom the conwoman told she must be having financial troubles.

The ‘tantrik’ assured them the solution to their woes lay in her pooja. Convinced, all of them pooled in their jewellery, cash and saree for the pooja. The procedure involved the accused putting all the jewellery in a box and tying it in a saree, and the women praying with their eyes closed.

The pooja ended at 11.45 am and the accused told the quartet she would return in the evening for another pooja, after which they could wear their jewellery and all their problems would be solved.

She told them not to open the box until she returned. Later in the day, one of the women mentioned the pooja to an 80-year-old woman, she smelt a rat and asked them to check the box for their jewellery. That was when they realised they were duped.
