BJP to knock at president’s door

The war of letters between governor HR Bhardwaj and chief minister BS Yeddyurappa took a new turn on Tuesday with the ruling BJP deciding to take up the issue with president Pratibha Patil demanding the recall of Bhardwaj. The party will also hit the streets after the panchayat polls seeking the governor’s ouster.

Strongly protesting the governor’s continued comments and letters against the chief minister, BJP leaders decided to submit a complaint to the president on Wednesday under the leadership of party national president Nitin Gadkari in Delhi along with state chief KS Eshwrappa and others.

Meanwhile, Eshwarappa and member of Parliament from Bangalore North, DB Chandre Gowda took over the battle against the governor from Yeddyurappa who refused to comment on Bhardwaj’s statement that he was not satisfied by the chief minister’s reply to his letters on corruption and illegal mining.

“From the beginning, HR Bhardwaj has been acting like opposition party leader. Earlier, using the dissident MLAs he tried to topple the BJP government; he recommended presidential rule in the state. But as his efforts did not yield any results, he is now trying to damage the image of BJP government in another way. We will not tolerate this governor anymore. After the panchayat elections, we will start agitation against him,” Chandre Gowda said.

He said the party was exploring all options to fight against Bhardwaj. “We will urge the Union government to recall governor HR Bhardwaj. Though he is an expert in law, he is acting like a politician. He must know his limitations and should act according to constitutional needs,” said Chandre Gowda.

He accused the governor of misusing his constitutional post. “He is protecting the interests of opposition parties and acting like their guardian. Though he heads constitutional post, he is acting like a Congressman,” said Chandre Gowda.
