Reacting to HD Deve Gowda’s statement, BJP national spokesperson, Ravishankar Prasad said, “The statement made by Gowda is not at the stature of a person who once, accidently though, became the prime minister of this country. Gowda should apologise to the country,” he said.

BJP state president Sadananda Gowda demanded an apology from the JD(S) chief and said that the party would contemplate legal action.  “No one would expect such behaviour from a person who had once held the post of a prime minister,” he said.BJP units in several districts have threatened to launch an agitation against Gowda till he tenders an apology for his comments.

Following this, in an apparent damage control exercise, Gowda clarified, “If they (his remarks) have hurt Yeddyurappa, I express my regret. I am born to save farmers.” Gowda has been up in arms against the NICE project and also the state government for allegedly helping the firm “deviate from laws” in the project. He and his partymen have been participating in the protests being staged on the NICE peripheral road by farmers who have lost their land to the project.
