Bengaluru: No Aadhaar card, no sitting for exams, schools tell students
Parents are reportedly unhappy about this new turn of events.
The schools in Bengaluru are reportedly telling students that if they don’t possess an Aadhaar card, they cannot sit for exams. A report in a leading tabloid states that schools – both private and government – have been asking students right from Class 1 to get their Aadhaar card. Parents are obviously unhappy about this new turn of events.
The Supreme Court has declared that that Aadhaar card will remain optional and that it is mandatory only for LPG connections and PDS. However, schools in the city are insisting all children must have an Aadhaar card states the report.
The state education department is said to be starting an Aadhaar card drive in schools. General secretary of Karnataka Associated Managements of English Medium Schools (KAMS), D Shashi Kumar, has told the paper that the directive to collect Aadhaar card details of all students was issued by the education department and they have asked schools not to stop students from writing exams, even if they don’t have an Aadhaar card.
