About 170 colleges affiliated to the Bangalore University (BU) are in trouble. This year, the varsity has decided not to send the local inspection committee (LIC) to those colleges that have not been active for the academic year 2011-2012. Therefore, these colleges will not be reaffiliated to BU.  Most of these colleges either have double-digit admissions or no admissions at all.

Every year, BU constitutes a local inspection committee to visit all its affiliated colleges. Based on the inspection committee’s report about the college’s functioning, the university renews the affiliation for the courses for the academic year.

Considering the 170 colleges that have less than 60 admissions or no admissions at all, BU is planning not to send the LIC committee to these colleges.

Dr N Prabhu Dev, vice-chancellor of BU, said, “The power of cancellation of affiliation is not with the university. But we can take a decision of not sending the LIC to certain colleges. When we don’t send the LIC, there is no question of renewal of affiliation.”
