When a group of techies from Bangalore headed to Skandagiri hill, a trekking spot near Chikkaballapur, to see sunrise on Saturday, they did not know that it would be the last sunrise for one of them.

City-based techie Raj Kiran Singh, 25, died after he slipped from a rock while descending after seeing the sunrise. He is a native of West Bengal and was working with Oracle India in Bangalore . He had gone to the trekking spot with his four colleagues. The police said the incident happened about 8.30am when they were descending from the peak of the hill. While coming down, Singh slipped from a rock, received serious head injury and died.

With the help of Kalawara villagers, his colleagues informed the police about the incident. The police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to Chikkaballapur district government hospital. Chikkaballapur Rural police, in whose jurisdiction the case comes, said Singh and his colleagues were on night duty on Friday. After finishing their work by 4am on Saturday, they headed towards Skandagiri hills.

B Iyyanna Reddy, sub-inspector with Chikkaballapur Rural police, said Saturday’s was the first instance of death during trekking at Skandagiri.

The body was handed over to Singh’s relative, who works in Bangalore , after postmortem.
