Bangalore's Nehru Planetarium reaches for the moon

A 40-minute audio visual sky-theatre programme, The Moon-A Scientific Story, was organised at the Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium on Monday.

During the show, the origin of the moon and different lunar phases were explained through 3-D computer graphics.

Similarly, occurrence of eclipse, why they do not occur every month, the gravitational pull of the moon which causes ocean tides and their consequence on the earth were also explained.

The audience, which also included governor HR Bhardwaj, was introduced to a few interesting phenomena that one would observe from the moon, through a panoramic view of the moon along with special effects.

During the last segment of the show, the salient results obtained by India’s maiden lunar mission Chandrayaan-1 was portrayed through images and fly-through clips given by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

Amidst scientific information, topics ranging from mythology, fiction, and anecdotes on space were also highlighted through 3D graphics, animations, video clippings, and special effects.

At the exhibition hall of the planetarium, a colourful poster exhibition on the moon and 3D model of the lunar surface based on images from Chandrayaan-1 were also exhibited.
