Try to reach the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) early if do not want to be inconvenienced.Security has been tightened at the airport, and airports across the country, in view of the approaching Republic Day. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security had asked airports in the metros to beef up security between January 20 and 26.  Intelligence inputs said that there could be a possible attempt to hijack an aircraft during this period. As a result, it asked for enhanced screening of passengers and vehicles at the airport entry points and also beef up surveillance at the baggage handling and cargo areas. An airport official said the CISF and local police have stepped up vigil.“As per guidelines issued from security agencies, there is extra vigilance during festivals and during Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations,” said an official.  Apart from the regular alert, the Intelligence Bureau is said to have sounded an alert over a possible attempt by the Indian Mujahideen to hijack an aircraft to free their leaders, like the arrested Yasin Bhatkal.
