The opposition parties had attacked the Congress government over the recent rape incidents and this had led to an embarrassed for the party at the national level. There was immense pressure to drop home minister K J George from the cabinet following the incident. The government has, however, transferred the two top cops of the city.

Interestingly, Auradkar has been transferred to the post which was earlier held by ADGP P Ravindranath, who had filed an atrocity case against the former recently, in connection with the case in which Ravindranath was accused of taking objectionable photographs of a young woman at a cafe. It is also said that chief minister Siddaramaiah had made up his mind to shunt Auradkar out then itself as the CM was upset about the way Auradkar handled the case. However, the CM had dropped the plan for political reasons.

But the recent rape incidents and the ensuing protests forced the government to act tough and as a result, Auradkar and Kamal Pant have been transferred. In fact, the day from when Auradkar took charge on April 5, many other senior IPS officers had reportedly tried to resist his appointment citing that their seniority was overlooked in the appointment.

The new police commissioner M N Reddi, an IPS officer of the batch of 1984, has earlier served in the city at various capacities. Even, Alok Kumar has the experience of serving in the city earlier.New postings:1- H C Kishore Chandra - ADGP ( Law & Order), state2- M N Reddi - Police Commssioner, Bangalore city3- Raghavendra H Auradkar - ADGP (KSRP)4- Kamal Pant - IGP (Grievances and Human Rights)5- Alok Kumar - Additional Commissioner of Police (Law & Order), Bangalore city
