In anticipation of a huge number of revellers thronging the city on new year’s Eve, the police have barred entry of vehicles from 8 pm on Friday to 1 am on Saturday on some roads.
In anticipation of a huge number of revellers thronging the Central Business District on new year’s Eve, the police have barred entry of vehicles from 8 pm on Friday to 1 am on Saturday on the following roads:
MG Road stretch from Anil Kumble junction up to the junction with Residency Road near the Mayo Hall; Brigade Road stretch from Cauvery Emporium junction up to the Opera junction; Church Street from its junction on Brigade Road till Museum Road junction; Museum Road from MG Road junction to Old Madras Bank Road junction.
Rest House Road from Museum Road junction to Brigade Road junction; Kamraj Road stretch from Cauvery Emporium junction to Cubbon Road junction and the Residency Cross Road leading to Shankar Nag theatre in Public Utility Building on MG Road.
However, the curb does not apply to police vehicles and vehicles of essential services on duty.
Only pedestrians will be allowed on to Brigade Road, from MG Road junction to Opera junction. However, walking in the opposite direction is prohibited. Instead if they want to return to MG Road they will have to do so by taking the Residency Road Cross and enter MG Road near Public Utility Building Cross, the advisory said.
An advisory from the traffic police stated that the restriction was put in place in the interest of public safety and convenience as the police were expecting a large number of people, motorists as well as pedestrians, to throng MG Road, Brigade Road, Residency Road, St Marks Road and Church Street on the New Year’s Eve.
The traffic police hoped that the curbs would regulate vehicular traffic and parking of vehicles on MG Road, Brigade Road, Church Street, St Marks Road, Rest House Road and Residency Road.
The traffic police have also banned parking of all types of vehicles, except police vehicles and vehicles of essential services on duty, from 4 pm on Friday till 3 am on Saturday in the following areas:
MG Road from Anil Kumble junction up to Trinity Circle; Brigade Road from Cauvery Arts Emporium junction up to Opera Junction; Church Street from Brigade Road junction up to St Marks Road junction; Rest House Road from Brigade Road junction up to Museum Road junction; Museum Road from MG Road junction up to Old Madras Bank Road junction.
The traffic police have also said that vehicles parked on MG Road, Brigade Road, Rest House Road, Church Street, Residency Road and St Mark’s Road should be removed by 4 pm on Friday, failing which they would be towed away and the vehicle owners would have to pay fines to get them released.
After 8 pm on Friday, vehicles coming from Queen’s Statue junction on MG Road and proceeding towards Ulsoor and beyond will have to turn left at Anil Kumble Circle to reach BRV Junction and then take right turn to move on to Cubbon Road and get back into MG Road at Webb’s junction.
Vehicles proceeding towards Cantonment areas from Ulsoor will have to turn right near Trinity Circle and enter Ulsoor Road, turn left on Dickenson Road and proceed towards Cubbon Road.
Parking of vehicles is allowed on both sides of Kamraj Road from Kamraj Road junction up to the Commercial Street junction and also inside Cubbon Park on Kings Road. Public can also park their vehicles in the Shivajinagar Bus Stand area.
In order to restrict movement of vehicles, Magarath Road will be closed from Garuda Mall towards Brigade Road following the civil works undertaken by Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). To reach Brigade Road, motorists will have to take a right turn at Commissariat Road and move on to Markham Road.
