Reiterating the importance of biotechnology (BT) in everyday life, Srivatsa Krishna, IAS, secretary to government, department of IT, BT and science & technology, said he wants to make the BT sector the IT sector of tomorrow.
In the last five years, the BT industry has grown at a CAGR of 15%. Today, the sector is Rs 23,500 crore in size as compared to IT which is 6.43 lakh crore. Announcing the dates for Bangalore India Bio (BIB) 2014, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw said the BT sector can only grow and reach new heights if the regulations are relaxed a little. BIB 2014 will be held from February 10-12. One of the highlights will be the participation of Nobel laureate sir John Bertrand Gurdon.
